The infamous UN Durban (I) “World Conference Against Racism”, held nine years ago (2001), authorized by a U.N. General Resolution, turned into a “hate Israel” festival.
Two delegations, the United States and Israel, withdrew from the conference claiming the conference was merely a pretext for the airing of virulent anti-semitism.
It was also an anti-Western conference – the second main issue dealt with was “Colonialism” and concomitant slavery issues. It ended three days before 9/11/01.
Durban II, held in April last year (in Geneva Switzerland, a MUCH nicer place to be than Durban, South Africa!) was convened in order to judge the effectiveness of the previous Durban’s recommendations! As so well said by the Wiki:
The conference was boycotted by Australia, Canada, Germany, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, and the United States. The Czech Republic discontinued its attendance on the first day, and twenty-three other European Union countries sent low-level delegations. They had expressed concerns that the conference would be used to promote anti-Semitism and laws against blasphemy perceived as contrary to the principles of free speech, and that the conference would not deal with discrimination against homosexuals. European countries also criticized the meeting for focusing on the West and ignoring problems of racism and intolerance in the developing world.
Gee, who is: against the Western world, wants Laws against Blasphemy! (laws in favor of a religious requirement), and yet is in favor of discrimination against gays and Jews….? Hmmm…. I wonder…..!
Ooh! OOH! This gets even better!:
Controversy surrounded the attendance of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at the conference due to his past statements on Israel and the Holocaust. On the first day of the conference, Ahmadinejad, the only head of state to attend, made a speech condemning Israel as “totally racist” and accusing the West of using the European Holocaust as a “pretext” for aggression against Palestinians. When he began to speak about Israel, the European Union delegates left the conference room, while a number of the remaining delegates applauded the Iranian President.
SO! Now… Durban III… is being scheduled to be held in NYC…. next September…. which just happens to be the 10th anniversary of 9/11. (The UN meets around the 20th of the month.) What will be discussed?
The U.N. “plenary session” is that time of year when they all get together and let any head of state speak – like A-jad’s yearly appearance. So let’s just think who has become the Majority bloc in the UN…!
While we can’t expect the O. to get rid of the UN this year (’cause he’s a weasel…. and he likes ’em!), we can hope that Congress defunds part, or all of the yearly UN subsidies – obligations and additional aid.
Plus, an nice NYC protest, held about two weeks after 9/11, will help to get the message across – that is, if the U.N. is… still… there…..!
