Mark Steyn has a teeny memorable quote worth mentioning:
A world that becomes more Muslim becomes less everything else…
Dec 06 unemployment 4.4%
& national debt $8.6 Trillion.
Jan 07 … began majority-Democrat-control.
Now unemployment 9.4%
& national debt $14.5 Trillion.
And then, consider this [hat tip: Doug Powers at MM]:
Federal revenue: $200 billion per month
Interest on the national debt: $29 billion
Social Security: $49.2 billion
Medicare and Medicaid: $50 billion
Active duty military pay: $2.9 billion
Veterans affairs programs: $2.9 billion
Education funding: $11 billion
All of that core spending adds up to $145 billion, which means that in the event of a debt limit, the government can pay it all and still have $55 billion a month left over.
So, if the Fed.s don’t pay any of these things come August 2nd, it’s only their own choice, to make ordinary Americans suffer.
Teh Bo Dizzle says,
“The American people are sold,” President Obama said.
“The American people are sold, I just want to repeat that.”
“You have 80% of the American people who support a balanced approach. 80% of the American people support an approach that includes revenues [read: “TAX INCREASES“~ mod] and includes cuts. So the notion that somehow the American people aren’t sold is not the problem. The problem is members of Congress are dug in ideologically.”
[hat tip: Atlas]
Y’know, “sold”, especially when repeated, is the kind of language used by con artists to describe a successful operation, as in, “I sold them on that idea”… or, “I sold them a bill of goods” [a classic reference to B.S.]
A Commenter on Atlas:
Delusional. He probably believes that the majority of Americans want to reelect him too. Pamela, I think he has adopted a “bunker mentality” like Hitler did in the last nonths of WWII, believing he had popular support and commanding divisions that only existed on paper. With his elitist, racist, narcissistic personality he cannot comprehend why his party has lost control of Congress and why people have turned against him …
